Mobile Apps Development: What happened in 2015?

Mobile Apps Development industry is moving at a brisk pace and 2015 seem to be no different. We had some major developments that took place in 2015 with new OSes, advancement in the mobile platform, and a global reach of audience. Let us have a roundup of what we witnessed in the year that just passed by.

New mobile OSes offered by brands

We saw Apple & Google rolling out their latest mobile operating system in the form of iOS 9 and Android Marshmallow.

iOS 9 went one step ahead in fixing bugs present in iOS 8. It offered a complete set of new features such as apps deep linking, iPad split-screen functionality, and a brand new innovative open source platform Swift OS.

Android Marshmallow delivered a great sigh of relief in rolling out app user permissions. Initially users asked for app permissions as soon as they downloaded the app, in previous Android versions. Now they can accept or deny the same.

Mobile gaming makes its foray on TV

We saw some major announcements from both giants regarding mobile gaming ready to thrive in your own living room. Yeah, that is right!

With Apple TV launch in 2015 accompanied by a brand new tvOS, an operating system meant for smart television, the intention of Apple are clear. This is backed by the fact that Apple has even launched an Apple TV App Store.

Google is quite certainly not behind in the race with the launch of Chromecast that allows users to play games on TVs which they initially played on smartphones and that too with other players available online.

Emerging markets still budding as ever

This is not surprising to see as you can witness this trend from past few years. Because of Android’s macro presence globally, the number of Google Play Store downloads grew by an impressive 5% with every passing quarter. The major developments were recorded in countries like India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. In fact, India is considered to be the largest market in terms of the number of downloads for immensely popular apps such as Whatsapp & Facebook, in spite of the fact that only 15% of the total population is on mobile. When it comes to iOS, China turned out to be an emerging market other than US, which escalated 10% growth in Apple’s revenue from one quarter to another.
